So I mentioned a while ago that we had put in an offer on a house. Well, we got it!
Signed the contract on March 30th!
1957sq ft, 3 bed 2 bath, 2 story, 2 car garage on a 15 year mortgage

Alex was excited about it I promise
Now we did have a few things that we wanted to fix up on the house before moving into it, (*cough*POPCORN CEILINGS ) but the distance from Mckinney to Garland is like 40 minutes and that was a long way to go a couple times a day so we decided to just make our bedroom livable and move in to do the rest of the house. So on 4th of April we packed all our stuff and moved into our first home!
All packed up!
So for valentines day alex cut out these hearts, put lindt chocolate on the back and hid them all over the house. I found a few while packing in random places and cracked up each time, he is the best!
It looked so empty and sad
But we were all excited to move!
Moving in!
Whoever invented popcorn ceilings must've taken his crazy pills that day because they are THE WORST! Not only are they atrocious to remove at but they are down right ugly to look at. So I'm pretty glad Alex insisted on removing them first.
Just to give a little insight to the process, you first have to saturate the texture using a weed sprayer. Then wait about 10 minutes to start scraping with a 12 inch metal scraper, removing all the popcorn. Then fill in all imperfections with spackle, sand the entire surface and then paint it. Sounds easy. Yeah thats what we thought...
Ugh never again!
This stuff Gets EVERYWHERE!
Our backyard was a nightmare. It's pretty small which was a major bummer for us but its big enough for a kiddy pool and swingset and the rest can just be left up to our kids imaginations. When we moved in the grass was over 2 feet high! The place had been vacant for a while before we bought it. A week after we moved in we got a letter in the mail from the city of Garland saying that our grass was way too long and if we didn't cut it we would get a fine. Well, we didn't plan on leaving it like a jungle forever but this gave us the big push to get out and buy a lawn mower (you need to buy so many things when you buy a house after living in an apartment!).
This thing was next on our list!! The previous owners had tried to make this like a movie theater or something and just did a terrible job! The whole interior was decorated, as Alex's brother put it, "contemporary redneck style" or "Chipotle style". Silver metal, ugly wood and yellow paint. Anyway, this 'movie theater' was huge and took up quite a bit of our lounge room!
This is what it looked like when we bought the house:
Alex got frustrated with it because he banged his head one too many times and punched a whole in the top so we removed that, then eventually took the whole thing apart.
Anyway so onto the rest of the house!
Our bedroom:
Allira sleeps next to our bed because she is still waking up 2 times a night and I aint walkin up those stairs to her room!
My favourite part of our house. This bathtub is so amazing!! I almost cant wait for winter to come again
Master bath with our walkin closet on the left. No pictures of that because my side of the closet is a mess and its embarrassing.
From our bedroom to the living room
Walking in the front door
View of loft from our living room
The living room/study. We still desperately need furniture to fill these rooms!
Kitchen. Not too impressive but it does the job!
Our dark long scary-in-the-middle-of-the-night hallway
The loft living area
Spare bedroom (still has paint on the floor whoops)
The worst room in the whole house that we are just too scared to tackle right now. There is wallpaper on wallpaper on wallpaper. But anyway this is our second bathroom.
Our bonus room/storage room to one day become the kids play room or food storage area. Havent decided
This is going to be Alliras bedroom once we decide what color to paint it. It was a hideous dark purple but I painted over it because it hurt my eyes. If anyone has any suggestions on nursery themes I'm totally open to them! And dont say look on pinterest because its already given me many headaches in this area.. But I cant wait to move her up here!
View from loft to downstairs
Alex's pride and joy, his 'mancave'. He is busy collecting all kinds of tools to fill it with.
So thats our house! Needs tonnes of work but we are having so much fun working on it and making it our own. And now its summer and Alex is out of school we are going to have this place shining! Ill update more about whats been going on when this mama finds some time.
